RICS celebrates Mathematics Day

RICS celebrated its first Mathematics Day on the 9th November 2007. The faculty of Mathematics came up with the theme "Beyond the Numbers" believing that there is more to Mathematics than mere numbers. The atmosphere was highly charged as the Houses competed to improve their overall House standings.

The theme served as inspiration to students in the Mathematics Poetry Competition, where competitors composed poems using technical terms in Mathematics. The high quality of the entries made the task of the Judges' in selecting a winning entry very tough. The logo making contest also saw many quality entries from the various houses. The wining entry by Natasha of the House of Gryphons, will be installed as the official log for the Mathematics Department. The main event, The Mathematics Challenge saw students solving questions to the beat of the music. After a keenly contested battle between the Houses, the House of Unicorns were crowned as Champions of the Maths Challenge.

The event ended with the presentation of prizes by Mr Gary Tan and Mr Marihot and the students left the Multi-Purpose Hall thereafter having thoroughly enjoyed the event.
