The RICS English Departmentis headed by Malcolm Johnson, an English language and literature specialist with international experience of teaching at school and university level and in the business sector. He has also worked in educational testing and evaluation, teacher training and textbook writing.
RICS English language teaching is based on the Cambridge International Examination syllabus, which prepares students for the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) and GCE A Levels. English is taught not only for academic study, but as a vehicle which enables our students to express themselves in a wide range of social and creative activities. Our aim is to equip RICS graduates with the language skills they will need in an increasingly competitive and international workplace.
The English Department is at the forefront of educational innovation. It is in the process of establishing a state-of-the-art English Language Centre in the school that will enable us to provide special intensive English courses for incoming new students (the RICS Head Start programme), and also function as a multimedia study centre for our GCE A Level students.
Another English Department initiative is an Internet-based distance learning project that will revolutionize the way RICS students study English language and prepare for their ICCSE English examination. Our aim is to harness the computer and IT skills of the younger generation as a new medium for language learning.

The personal response encouraged by the Art and Design syllabus will stimulate students' imagination, sensitivity, conceptual thinking, powers of observation and analytical ability. Students will develop confidence and enthusiasm in the practice of Art and Design as they gain the technical skill necessary to form, compose and communicate in two and three dimensions, and the ability to identify and solve problems in visual and tactile form. Students are expected to show the development of ideas from initial attempts to final solutions. The study of Art and Design will lead to a wider awareness of the role played by the visual arts in society and in the history of civilization. It will broaden students' cultural horizons and enrich their individual experience.
