Academic Programs

Raffles International Christian School with its commitment for scholastic excellence introduces for school year 2008-2009 the Primary Programme. The introduction of Primary Program beginning from Grades 1 to 6, will prepare the transition of students towards their secondary education and collegiate plans ahead. The program envisions a dynamic change in teaching that allows a child the opportunity to learn in eight different ways (Multiple Intelligences) and is guided by the Cambridge Primary Curriculum Framework.

Objectives

Students achieve high standards in recognized international examinations and are of high quality characters, as the image of God and to glorify Jesus Christ.

Raffles International Christian School aims to enable primary students to become:

  • successful learners who enjoy learning, make progress and achieve their goals;
  • confident individuals who are able to live safe, healthy and fulfilling lives; and
  • responsible citizens who make a positive contribution to the community, society and country.

Primary Curriculum Background

Primary Curriculum for RICS is patterned with the Cambridge Curriculum Framework. The detailed framework would facilitate the development of courses that are stimulating for the students and teachers as well. The knowledge and skills developed should ensure a smooth transition from primary to secondary education.

The primary programme utilises Howard Gardner's MI (Multiple Intelligences) as a pathway for student's learning. Using the different forms of cognition and the awareness of learning & teaching in eight different ways:

  • Verbal/ Linguistic
  • Interpersonal
  • Logical/ Mathematical
  • Intrapersonal
  • Visual/ Spatial
  • Musical/ Rhythmic
  • Bodily/ Kinesthetic
  • Naturalist

Note: MI Assessment

Students will be given a "MI" assessment paper to determine their strong intelligences. This will be carried out in Term 1. Results will be made available to students and parents upon orienting them with the MI theory.
